Something Special: A Drawing Tutorial with Katie Cook

One of our longtime Toucan blog contributors, Katie Cook, teaches you how to draw one of her favorite vegetables ... you'll have to participate in her tutorial to find out which one it is! 

Supplies:

  • Pen or pencil
  • Paper
  • Colored pencils or markers

Supervillains of the World, UNITE! Grow Your Own Kryptonite with Bryn

Learn to grow your own edible Kryptonite rock candy with Bryn! Since this recipe requires using a stove, make sure to take the necessary safety precautions (yes kids, this means teaming up with an adult)!

Supplies and ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • Gel food coloring
  • Measuring spoon (tablespoon)
  • 2 wooden skewers or chopsticks
  • 2 glass jars
  • 2 clothespins
  • Painter’s (or other) tape to secure clothespins

Masks On! A Sewing Tutorial with Pam

  • Cotton or woven fabric
  • Matching or coordinating thread
  • 16" of elastic cut in two 8" lengths
  • 4' of pipe cleaner
  • 1 small to medium size safety pin

Be A Hero: An Embroidery Hoop Art Tutorial with Meg

Meg from the Volunteers department has created an embroidery hoop art tutorial to remind us that we all have the ability to be heroes!

Supplies:

  • Embroidery floss, 1 or 2 colors as desired
  • 1 Embroidery needle
  • 1 Embroidery hoop
  • Fabric (light in color for tracing)
  • Paper with your design - can be printed or drawn
  • Scizzors or snips
  • A pencil or light pen
