SAM: Storytelling Across Media: Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Comic-Con Museum
SAM 2019 presented by Comic-Con is a FREE event that will take place on Saturday, October 26, at the Comic-Con Museum. A SAM badge is required for admission and can only be obtained at the show, either by:
- Providing your name and email address at the Onsite Registration desk.
- Presenting proof of panel ticket registration at the Pre-Registration desk.
- If you pre-registered for the Comic Creator Connection or Gaming Creator Connection: Giving your name at the Program Participant desk.
A SAM badge is all that’s required to attend activities on the Main Level (i.e., tabletop gaming demos, the gaming miniature paint-and-take area, portfolio reviews, and the evening reception).
Advance registration is encouraged for panels*, the Comic Creator Connection, and the Gaming Creator Connection. Scroll down for additional information.
*Accommodations are available for those with a disability, who use a wheelchair, or who are deaf or hard of hearing. Please email email@example.com for assistance.
Registering for Panel Tickets
Tickets are free. You may register for more than one panel, but you are limited to one ticket per panel.
Panels are hosted in two rooms and many are scheduled concurrently. If you’d like to attend more than one panel, take a moment to review the SAM 2019 Programming Grid to be sure they are not scheduled to occur at the same time. Registering for concurrent panels will not guarantee you a seat in either panel.
Panel ticket registration will be available onsite, but seating will depend on how many pre-registered attendees redeem their tickets.
Redeeming Panel Tickets
Present the panel’s Eventbrite ticket with barcode at the entrance of the panel’s room no later than 5 minutes before the panel’s start time.**
Any seats left open 5 minutes before the start of the panel will be filled by attendees in the standby line.
**A SAM badge is required to reach the panel rooms. Please arrive at the Museum with enough time before the panel to pick up a badge.
Standby Line for Panels
Standby lines for each panel room will be located on the Main Level of the Museum.
Those interested in a panel who did not pre-register may stand at the room’s designated standby line no earlier than 30 minutes before the panel they hope to attend. If there are open seats, standby attendees will be admitted in the order in which they got in line.
Comic Creator Connection
Have you always wanted to create a comic book, but needed a creative partner? New to SAM is the Comic Creator Connection, a fast-paced networking event popularized at Comic-Con that puts writers and artists together to help them meet potential new creative partners.
ComiXology at the Comic Creator Connection
A long-standing supporter of independent creators and cartoonists, comiXology—Amazon’s premier digital comics service—has sponsored the Comic Creator Connection at San Diego Comic-Con for six years and is now bringing their support to SAM! ComiXology promotes works born from Comic Creator Connection collaborations accepted through comiXology’s independent publisher service, - comiXology Submit. Submit enables comic creators and cartoonists (from promising new talent to established veterans) the ability to reach comiXology’s global audience. A representative from comiXology will be on hand to answer questions and offer advice for burgeoning creators.
Gaming Creator Connection
For the first time ever, SAM will feature the Gaming Creator Connection, an opportunity for game developers—whether currently working in the industry or aspiring to do so—to receive valuable advice, insights, and mentoring from seasoned veterans of the game industry representing diverse professional backgrounds.
The Gaming Creator Connection (GCC) is organized and run by a professional game creator with 25+ years of experience, along with the participation of seasoned veterans from across the game industry. The GCC is a perfect opportunity to seek expert guidance in one of three core areas:
- Art/Design: Artists of all kinds (general, character, environment, UI, etc.)
- Narrative: Writers, narrative designers, editors, world builders, etc.
- Business: A range of topics pertaining to indie start-ups, funding, marketing, pitching skills, etc.
