Comic-Con's Portfolio Review offers advice...and maybe your big break!
Want to put your skills to use for a top comic, animation, special effects, or
design company? Then get that portfolio together and head up into the Sails Pavilion
to the Portfolio Review Area, where you’ll find industry professionals waiting to critique your
work and answer questions.
The companies listed below reserved portfolio space early. More will be added as
the show rolls on, so be sure to check the daily events guide and the schedule at
the Autograph Area Information Desk each day.

2008 Portfolio Review Schedule

Please note: You cannot schedule a review session in advance. All registration
takes place onsite and is usually on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition to
the upstairs area under the Sails Pavilion, some companies conduct portfolio reviews at
their booths in the Exhibit Hall; these will be noted as applicable.
Action Artists
Action Artists represents storyboard and conceptual artists for gaming,
film, commercial, and advertising industries. Beth Hall, executive
representative will be reviewing portfolios for storyboard, conceptual, 2D and
3D artists. Writers for games are also encouraged to stop by, as Action Artists
will be representing writers soon!

Arch Enemy Entertainment
Arch Enemy Entertainment is giving artists a rare opportunity to have
their portfolios reviewed. Comic book artist Tone Rodriguez (Violent
Messiahs, Snake Plissken Chronicles, The Simpsons, U.T.F.) and
screenwriter/comic book writer William Wilson (U.T.F.,Urban Monsters, Snake
Plissken Anime, G.I. Joe: Frontline) will be on hand to review portfolios.
Artists need to bring copies of their samples along with their contact
information. Note: Samples will not be returned.

Cartoon Network Studios
Cartoon Network Studios produces several animated favorites, including
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Chowder, Flapjack, and Ben 10:
Alien Force. Cartoon Network’s purpose in participating in the review area
is to give you feedback in preparing your portfolio for submission in the
animation industry. They strongly encourage those with CG skills to submit their
portfolio for review. Remember to sign up early, as reviewers were unable to
meet last year's demand. While representatives are always happy to hear from
fans, they ask that only artists serious in pursuing a career in animation and
who have taken the time to compile a portfolio targeted to that goal sign up for
time. Please remember that less is more, and pick only your best work to show.
It is recommended that you show samples spotlighting the position you want to
pursue (i.e. character design, storyboard, etc.). That will help reviewers give
you more productive feedback and will make the best use of a limited amount of
time.

CinemaGraphix Entertainment
CinemaGraphix Entertainment is a motion picture production and publishing
company that enhances the value and marketability of its movie and television
projects by first launching them in the comic book marketplace. All of the
CinemaGraphix storylines are written by movie and television screenwriters with
multiple produced credits. CinemaGraphix is looking for pencilers, inkers,
colorists, and letterers for a wide variety of feature-film-related comic books
and graphic novels. They are especially interested in pencilers who can ink
their own work and who specialize in one or more of the following categories:
horror, science fiction, good girl, action, or animation. For serious
consideration, please bring photocopied samples or sample digital files that can
be left behind.

College for Creative Studies is an art and design college If you are
thinking of applying to the College for Creative studies are a similar

Committed Comics
Committed Comics has signed one new talent at every San Diego Comic-Con
where they have exhibited. The next new talent could be you. Committed’s editor-
in-chief, Tom Doherty (the only editor to ever do an 8-hours marathon of
portfolio reviews) is going to do it again! He will be on hand to personally
view and critique the work of promising new artists. Unlike many companies,
Committed is actively seeking new projects and creators to work with. They're
not here just to look at portfolios to see what is out there; they are looking
for creators who have the drive and determination to go to the next level.
Committed Comics will review pencils, inks, colors, letters, and full projects.

Dark Horse
Dark Horse editors will be reviewing the storytelling work of
professional-level comics artists. They will be looking at consecutive story
pages only, with an eye toward storytelling as well as drawing skills. A minimum
of five consecutive pages are required. Please bring your most recent work.
Artists with cover paintings, inking or color samples, pinups, or sketches are
invited to submit work by following the instructions at
www.darkhorse.com/company/submissions.php. It is suggested that this review be
treated as a job interview.

Mindy Goldberg, will provide critiques and offer tips and suggestions. From
comic art, photo-collage and illustration, Lucasfilm is looking for work that is
dynamic, unique, and impactful, whether cartoon drawings, logo designs
(icons/symbols/emblems), traditional or digital illustration, or art that shows
strong design skills. The use of typography is always extremely helpful, as well
as illustrations, paintings, and collages that incorporate photography.
