Eisner Awards to Inaugurate Posh New Venue

The ceremony for the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards has a new home for 2009: The Indigo Room at the recently opened Hilton San Diego Bayfront. The Hilton Bayfront is just south of the San Diego Convention Center, the site of the ceremony for the last several years. Learn more after the jump.

ICv2 to Host Comics and Media Conference in Conjunction with San Diego Comic-Con Int'l

The ICv2 Comics and Media Conference, a ticketed half-day event, will be held at the San Diego Marriott, next to the San Diego Convention Center, on Wednesday afternoon, July 22nd, from 1pm to 5pm, just before Preview Night at Comic-Con. Comic-Con is assisting with promotion and logistics for the event. Learn more after the jump.

John Broome, Frank Jacobs to Receive 2009 Bill Finger Award

John Broome and Frank Jacobs have been selected to receive the 2009 Bill Finger Award for Excellence in Comic Book Writing. The choice made by a blue-ribbon committee chaired by writer-historian Mark Evanier was unanimous.

"Each year, we select two writers who favored us with important, inspirational work that has somehow not quite received its rightful recognition," Evanier explains. "The idea is that the award may go some distance to rectifying that, and I sure hope this one does. Because no one is more deserving than Frank Jacobs, for his past and current work, and John Broome for the legacy he left behind."

Comic-Con 2009 Masquerade Contestant Slots Filled

The 2009 Masquerade has filled all of its contestant slots. New entry forms we receive are being placed on the Waiting List until that too becomes filled. A few contestant slots usually open up as the convention nears as some entries cancel or do not meet entry criteria. To those that we will be unable to fit into the show, we hope to see you on our stage next year. All costumers will probably be interested in the excerpted article, Tips for Presenting Your Costume on Stage, written by Masquerade Coordinator Martin Jaquish and originally published in Comic-Con Magazine; a link to that article is now on our Masquerade page. Guidelines for obtaining tickets to the Masquerade as well as information on the simultaneous simulcasts is also available. AN IMPORTANT NOTE TO COSPLAYERS -- A new weapons policy has been instituted which can be found in the sidebar of our site (as well as on our Fast Facts FAQ page). All cosplayers should read it carefully!
