Cliff Chiang has joined the pantheon of great Wonder Woman artists with his depiction of the world’s most iconic super-heroine over the past (almost) 3 years in DC’s New 52. Along with writer Brian Azzarello, Cliff has contributed a dynamic new portrayal of the character, one that’s up there with Diana Prince’s great artists: H. G. Peters, Ross Andru and Mike Esposito, George Pérez, Phil Jimenez, Brian Bolland, and Adam Hughes.
Cliff is a special guest this year at WonderCon Anaheim, and we jumped at the chance to showcase his art and his version of Wonder Woman on our cover. We had only one instruction for him: make it iconic. As you can see, he accomplished this with flying colors in the piece that he designed, penciled, inked, and colored exclusively for WonderCon. (And if you’re assuming this art is the official WCA 2014 T-shirt, well … let’s just say that’s a pretty astute assumption. But more on that in the days ahead!)
Cliff’s Wonder Woman art is already gracing our ad in DC Comics in the months of March and early April, but here’s the full cover, including the logo type based on the Wonder Woman comic logo, also contributed by Cliff for this version.
The WonderCon Anaheim 2014 Program Book is given free to all attendees (while supplies last). This 112-page, full-color book is your official guide to the show, including special guest bios and photos, exhibitor lists and info, the complete programming and events schedule, maps to the Exhibit Hall and the entire Anaheim Convention Center and our headquarters hotel, the Anaheim Marriott, and much more. Included this year is a look at Cliff’s art for the cover, from sketch to pencils to inks to final cover. You’ll only get this gem at WonderCon … so what are you waiting for? Click here to buy badges now online (badges will NOT be available at the door this year). And stay tuned for more WonderCon Anaheim 2014 news coming your way!
